The short version: uploaded photos are used only to complete the scan you start and are deleted when it finishes. We keep only your account details and saved scan results, and we never sell them or use them for advertising.
To run a scan, the app opens your device's system image picker so you can choose the screenshot you want checked. The app does not request camera or microphone access. The selected image is used only for the scan you start.
During the reverse image search the screenshot may sit briefly in temporary storage under a random, unguessable name, and it is deleted the moment your scan finishes. We never keep a copy, publish or sell your photos, or use them to train our models. The image is transmitted to the service providers needed to perform image analysis, face comparison, and reverse-image search, as described below.
So you can review your past scans, we keep the results of each one in your account: the name and platform visible in the screenshot, the Fake Score, the verdict, and the findings behind it. These results are private to your account. We do not share or sell them, and the person you scanned is never notified.
If you'd like a scan result removed, contact us and we'll delete it.
A scan runs only when you pick a screenshot and press the button. We do not crawl dating apps, monitor anyone in the background, run scheduled or automated scans, or keep watchlists. Nothing happens unless you make it happen.
To run your account we store your name (if provided), email address, an account ID, and a securely hashed version of your password. The mobile app does not contain a purchase flow or link to an outside purchase flow.
We use your email only for account essentials like verification, password resets, receipts, and replies to messages you send us. We don't sell it or hand it to advertisers.
The app does not track you across other apps or websites, does not use advertising identifiers, and contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers. We don't build a profile of you or share your activity with data brokers.
Running a scan involves service providers for cloud hosting, AI/OCR, face analysis, AI-image detection, reverse-image and open-web search, and transactional email. The screenshot or a cropped portion of it is sent only to providers needed for the scan. We require providers to process it only to deliver the service and do not authorize advertising, sale, model training, or unrelated reuse.
You can delete your entire account at any time. In the app, open Account and choose Delete account. This removes your scan history and personal details from our systems and cancels any active ScanFakes subscription associated with the account. Payment processors may retain transaction records where required for fraud prevention, tax, accounting, or other legal obligations. You can also use our account deletion page or email hello@scanfakes.com and we'll take care of it.
ScanFakes is for adults. The app is not directed at children, we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and scanning photos of minors is not permitted.
